Jan 12-Jan 18: Private sessions with Richard Adelman, M. A. In private sessions you experience two complementary modalities: fully-clothed subtle hands-on bodywork and gentle easy movements which you can repeat at home.  Both methods help to release tension and stress, deepen body awareness, reduce or eliminate pain, and improve breathing, posture, coordination, and balance. This work is effective for both chronic and acute conditions. Most people begin to feel better beginning with their first session. Over time they learn to form a more comfortable relationship with their body and to live more comfortably in it. This work creatively synthesizes Feldenkrais, Pilates, Osteopathy, and Somatic Psychology, with which Richard has been involved since 1970. To fully benefit, it is recommended to have two or three sessions during the week. San Miguel cell: 044.415.114.3069, richard@lifepathretreats.com

Jan 13, 3-5 pm —Talk and Movement Experience: Aging Gracefully—Flexibility After 50. Biblioteca Publica, (50 peso donation). The aging process is inevitable but how we age is up to us.  Somatic education offers us a way to age with dignity and grace. This pathway can be safe, pleasurable, and rewarding.  In fact, it should be—it works better that way! We can be a passive victim.  Or we can proactively influence the quality of our bodily life as we grow older. One way to do this is by reconnecting with our body pleasurably through gentle, nurturing, rejuvenating movements. “We no longer need to accept a deteriorating old age as inevitable,” in the words of anthropologist Margaret Mead. She recognized the Feldenkrais Method as “the best method I have seen for the prevention and reversal of deterioration of function.”
Feldenkrais movements, as well as others drawn from Pilates, Osteopathy, and Somatic Psychology, directly challenge the traditional “no pain, no gain” philosophy. They offer a gentle way to work with—and learn to live with—yourself with interest, empathy, and love. Developing a more flexible attitude toward your body helps you to develop a more flexible physical body. Perhaps best of all is this:  having a practice to help yourself feel better can enhance your self-confidence and brighten your outlook for the future.  Optimism is a natural anti-depressant!

In this event we will experience very gentle and intriguing movements to increase fluidity and flexibility in turning your head while sitting and standing.  We will discover how improving stability can paradoxically also help to increase your flexibility.  We will explore how to create more “living space” for yourself inside your very own body.  In addition there will be a brief demonstration of hands-on therapy with an audience member.
